Douglas Site Services - Sustainable Development Policy

At Douglas Site Services our objective is to be the partner of choice - we are wholly committed to create long-term, sustainable value for our employees, contractors, suppliers, customers, business partners, the natural environment and the communities within which we operate.

Douglas Site Services recognises the growing importance of sustainable development, aspires to achieve positive impacts for all its stakeholders, host communities and the environment whilst striving to maintain leading practices and standards in the waste management industry.

Wherever Douglas Site Services operates it develops, implements and maintains environmental management systems for sustainable development that drive continual improvement. This is achieved through:

• Culture: our team at Douglas Site Services is focused on preserving our natural environment and the communities within which we operate. This commitment and dedication to a more sustainable future begins within our own workplace environment
• Knowledge and Training: we ensure all full-time and casual staff that join us are given the appropriate education and training and adhere to our sustainability framework for reviewing our own environmental objectives and targets
• Collaboration: we work closely with a number of government and non-government agencies and partners (eg Sustainability Victoria), attending workshops and providing feedback and ideas as to how, together, we can make events and venues more sustainable and are continually exploring new ways to help reduce, re-use and recycle
• Operations: we believe as a waste management company, we are directly responsible for improving awareness, education and augmenting improved practices in waste management. We do this through:
• Engagement: discuss with our clients and appropriate stakeholders best practice methodologies and impart expert advice on how to make each event, or venue more environmentally friendly, providing solutions for the long-term.
• Education: educate our clients, event organizers and store holders on how to reduce, re-use and recycle, minimising waste to landfill at their event(s) and venue(s) and reducing their carbon footprint
• Provision: provide leading infrastructure processes and equipment to instigate positive behaviour change in patrons with regard to waste reduction and recycling practices.
• Supply-chain management: ensure our suppliers, eg waste removal companies, are depositing waste in the correct recycled waste stream and providing the necessary documentation for this.
• Accountability and transparency: our environmental audit reporting on waste management provision, diversion and overall environmental performance ensures our clients have the evidence of their commitment to sustainable practice

In implementing this Policy, Douglas Site Services will engage with and support all its stakeholders to share its responsibility in meeting the challenges of sustainable waste management services.
